A Quercetin supplement is a flavonoid that is found in many different types of plants. It can be found in numerous fruits and vegetables such as red onions, capers, lovage, apples, citrus fruits, tomatoes, broccoli, leafy green vegetables, cherry, raspberry, green tea, lingonberries, cranberries, red grapes and many others. It has become very popular through a lot of media attention, which highlights the different health benefits it can provide for the human body. Apart from obtaining quercetin through the aforementioned food sources, it can also be found through the use of quercetin supplements.

Research is still being done on the benefits of taking quercetin supplements, but what has been found so far, is that it is beneficial for a number of diseases and can help reduce or prevent them when it is consumed. Some of the properties that quercetin supplement is renowned for are anti-inflammatory, antioxidant, antitumor and anti-viral. The benefits also extend to providing the body with nutrients and it has also become very popular among athletes who are involved in intensive physical activities. Studies on these athletes found that those who consumed this quercetin supplement showed an increase in their performance during exercise.

Quercetin Supplement – Benefits

Many people who suffer from allergies are turning towards quercetin supplements in order to help them alleviate the symptoms caused by allergens. These inflammatory conditions are normally caused when an allergen in the form of either pollen from plants, particles from food or particles from chemicals find their way into the body’s bloodstream. They can enter through a number of different organs such as the intestines, the skin, or through the lungs. Once they get into the body’s bloodstream, the B cells will react by producing what are known as IgE allergic antibodies. These antibodies will then travel through the blood until they reach the mast cells or basophils, where they will then bind themselves with them. They will then cause the mast cells and basophils, which are responsible for histamine and serotonin production, to release it into the body’s blood. It is because of the released histamine and serotonin, that the familiar symptoms of allergies occur such as runny nose, coughing, watery or itchy eyes, blocked sinuses and other associated symptoms of allergies.

Researchers found that when you take a quercetin supplement it enters into the bloodstream and will attach to the mast cells and basophils. This provides a stabilizing effect to their cell membranes. The stabilization will inhibit the mast cells from further releasing histamine and serotonin into the blood, thereby reducing and finally stopping the symptoms caused from the allergy. It is for this reason why many manufacturers advertise their quercetin supplement as being able to help reduce or prevent allergies.

Those individuals who suffer from asthma, which is an allergic inflammation of the lungs, can also benefit from taking a quercetin supplement. A number of different particles like those from animal hair, dust, pollen, or many others, may trigger an asthma attack. When these get into the body’s lungs, it causes the constriction of millions of miniscule air sacs, which causes breathing to be severely reduced. This is caused by the body’s B cells reacting to the presence of allergens, and they then produce the IgE antibody, which causes the mast cells to release histamine. In addition to this release of histamine, leukotrienes are also produced, which are responsible for causing asthma. In this case, the quercetin supplement will be able to help by inhibiting the production of these leukotrienes and histamine. This will help normalize the body’s response to the allergens.

Quercetin Supplement – A Good Quercetin Supplement Will Reduce Inflammation

As can be seen in these two examples, the anti-inflammatory properties of a quercetin supplement are highly beneficial and has helped many sufferers of allergies and asthma to have better control during these situations. There have also been other tests done on using quercetin’s anti-inflammatory properties for treating other types of inflammatory diseases. One of these included is its use in Pancreatitis, which is an inflammation of the pancreas. The research found that quercetin supplement compounds, which are present in apples as well, were seen to reduce pancreatic cancer from spreading in rats. The implications are very encouraging. However, more studies need to be carried out on human specimens in order to find out the exact results, especially if there is also the possibility that the use of quercetin supplements may provide similar results as that found in the study.

Another area where quercetin supplements could be beneficial is in the treatment of prostatitis. This was found when researchers put 15 individuals who were suffering from category 3 prostatitis on a quercetin dosage of 500 mg twice a day. At the same time, they also placed 15 category 3 prostatitis sufferers on placebos during the period of one month. It was found that two patients who were from the group taking the placebo pulled out of the study due to worsening symptoms. The group that was taking quercetin had no incidents of individuals pulling out from the study. At the end of the research, the group that was taking quercetin was found to have reported a reduction in symptoms by approximately 40% compared to 6% from the placebo taking group. The results from this study show the use of quercetin supplement in prostatitis to be very encouraging. However, more research is required to find out the longer-term benefits of utilizing quercetin for the treatment of prostatitis.

In order to ensure that you are getting the best possible quercetin supplements, you should make sure that the manufacturer follows the pharmaceutical GMP compliance. It is regarded as one of the highest standards available and is particularly important for those buying the supplements in the US because dietary supplements are unregulated. It is also important to avoid any supplements, which contain too many additives such as sugar, gluten, silica, starch and other types of fillers. There are many well-known products available on the market and you can find them available in stores that specialize in dietary supplements.
